Take Back the Night is an international event with the mission of ending sexual violence in all forms. Hundreds of events are held in over 30 countries annually. The local event organized by The Inner Truth Project for the fifth year in a row includes a march through downtown Fort Pierce, rallies and vigils intended as a protest and direct action against rape and other forms of sexual violence. When The Inner Truth Project founder and director, Mindi Fetterman started hearing of the sexual violence that was going unaddressed in the community, she felt that this was a positive event that could empower women and men of all ages to participate, learn more and come together face to face with other people who had experienced similar acts of violence and were tired of hiding in silence. The crowds have continued to grow in support of those who have come to the event to break their silence and every year, Take Back The Night becomes a more joyous an d celebratory event than the year before.
This is a free event and is appropriate for teens, men and women. The march is a short mile through downtown with police escorts and the speak out is in a safe and supportive environment open for anyone who wants to share as much or as little of their story as they choose. We also welcome, poetry, spoken word, songs and any type of artistic healing expression. There will be snacks and drinks as well as t-shirts for sale.
Feel free to bring posters to march with or grab one of ours!
Our event will include community resource partners who will have tables set up with how to get help, referrals, information and more.
