Robin ‘Rio’ Ratermanis BSN, RN received her bachelors degree in nursing at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Nursing in 1996. After a year of emergency department nursing she was recruited by the U.S. Department of State, Foreign Service. She was cross trained in diplomatic security and worked as a clinical RN in neuro/emergency and first responders training specializing in disaster preparedness (to include biological, radiological and chemical weapons of mass destruction). Due to her postings in Germany, Australia, India and Uruguay, Rio fluently speaks several languages. At each embassy posting Rio took a proactive approach towards empowering her communities with health and wellness instruction. She separated from the State Department in September 2012 in order for her son to attend high school stateside after 15 years of international education. She is now employed as a staff nurse with the St. Lucie Emergency Department. Rio is sexual assault nurse examiner trained by the Florida State Department of Health and advocates for outreach and education in the community.
